6.1 Proper use
Locking part, handle/fitting
• The locking part constitutes a single unit with the handle/fitting. Only locks and furniture that have
been tested and certified together can be installed. It is not permitted to make changes to such a
combination (even partially), or to change the locking part.
• The use of any additional devices to keep the door closed (with the exception of a door closer) is
not permitted. If a door closer is installed, it may not impede operation of the door by children, the
elderly or the infirm.
• Even with the required regular maintenance, the entire locking part must be replaced after it has
reached the end of its service life as listed below:
First sash (“active sash”) – 1 and 2-sash doors: 200,000 operations of the handle
Second sash (“inactive sash”) – 2-sash doors: 20,000 operations of the handle
• Replace cylinder locks and keys as soon as there are problems inserting and removing the key despite
regular maintenance.
Mechanical and electromechanical cylinder locks
The following may be used with KFV emergency exit and panic door locks:
• Cylinder locks with free-running catches in which the catch can always be freely turned.
• Cylinder locks with a rigid catch in which the catch is locked in the key removal position within the
range of –30° to +30°.

You may not use:
• Cylinder locks with a rigid catch in which the catch is locked in the key removal position outside the
range of -30° to +30°. This includes cylinder locks in which the catch position can be adjusted manually
so that it is possible to reach a catch position outside of the range of -30° to +30°.
